Curated Titles for Lori’s New Grandson, 2021

I was an early childhood educator for 19 years and enjoyed reading picture books to my students. When I retired, I began writing my own stories. I ultimately gravitated to nonfiction, researching and writing about unsung heroes who have contributed to our world in remarkable ways and whose lives can show young readers and all children that persistence matters.

I’m an active member of SCBWI. In January 2020, I received the SCBWI Florida Regional Rising Kite Award for second place in the Picture Book category for my manuscript, Over the Rainbow with E. Y. “Yip” Harburg: The Man Who Wrote the Words the Whole World Sings. I have also enjoyed being a long time member of the 12 x 12 Picture Book Writing Challenge.

When I’m not reading or writing, I love solving crossword puzzles. Sometimes I step away from a puzzle and tackle an unrelated task, which helps me figure out the unsolved clues. I like to approach writing picture books in much the same way, but with a lot more research and revision. I am represented by Joyce Sweeney, @JoyceGrackle, of The Seymour Agency.

Through SCBWI, I’ve connected with the SCBWI Florida Regional Chapter, where I also found my critique group, my wonderful group of writing friends.
